<\/span>Born in Naples on<\/span>\u00a06<\/span>\u00a0September<\/span>\u00a01962,<\/span>\u00a0he graduated in Law<\/span>\u00a0from<\/span>\u00a0the<\/span>\u00a0University Federico II of Naples on\u00a0<\/span>9<\/span>\u00a0July<\/span>\u00a01987.<\/span>\u00a0He joined the diplomatic service on<\/span>\u00a013<\/span>\u00a0February<\/span>\u00a01989.<\/span><\/span><\/span>
<\/span><\/p>\n

From 1<\/span>4<\/span>\u00a0November<\/span>\u00a01989<\/span>\u00a0he served at the Directorate<\/span>\u00a0General fo<\/span>r<\/span>\u00a0Migration and Social Affairs<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0first in\u00a0<\/span>the Office for Italians in the Americas and Oceania and later in the same Directorate General\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>Secretariat<\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span>On<\/span>\u00a03<\/span>\u00a0May<\/span>\u00a01993<\/span>\u00a0he was appointed<\/span>\u00a0Second<\/span>\u00a0Secretary<\/span>\u00a0at the<\/span>\u00a0Italian Embassy in Damascus<\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span>On<\/span>\u00a021<\/span>\u00a0July<\/span>\u00a01997<\/span>\u00a0h<\/span>e was appointed First Secretary and later Counsellor<\/span>\u00a0at<\/span>\u00a0the Italian Embassy in<\/span>\u00a0Sofia<\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span>Upon returning to Rome, in December 2000, he was assigned to the General Directorate for Multilateral\u00a0<\/span>Political Affairs and Human Rights at the Disarmament<\/span>\u00a0Office and from 3 September 2002 to the General\u00a0<\/span>Secretariat, Coordination Unit.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span>Embassy Counsellor<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong>on 2 July 2004, from 19 September 2005 he<\/span>\u00a0was appointed to the Permanent\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Representation of Italy to the EU<\/span>\u00a0in Brussels,<\/span>\u00a0with the rank of<\/span>\u00a0First<\/span>\u00a0Counsellor<\/span><\/strong>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span>Returning to Rome again in 2010, he served at the Presidency of the Council of Ministers<\/span><\/span>\u00a0as<\/span><\/span>\u00a0Coordinator\u00a0<\/span><\/span>of the Structure for Procedures for infringement of<\/span><\/span>\u00a0EU law<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>
<\/span><\/p>\n

Minister Plenipotentiary<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong>\u00a0on 2 January 2011, he was appointed Diplomatic<\/span><\/span>\u00a0Counsellor<\/span><\/span><\/span>\u00a0to the Minister\u00a0<\/span><\/span>for European Affairs from the end of 2011.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span>On 27 June 2013 he<\/span><\/span>\u00a0was<\/span><\/span><\/span>\u00a0appointed Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy in London and on 10 July <\/span><\/span>2018 Deputy Chief of Cabinet of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

On<\/span><\/span>\u00a031<\/span><\/span>\u00a0August<\/span><\/span>\u00a02019<\/span><\/span>\u00a0he was appointed<\/span><\/span>\u00a0Director Genera<\/span><\/span>l for Europe and International Trade P<\/span><\/span>olicy<\/span><\/span><\/strong>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

He is<\/span><\/span><\/span>\u00a0Permanent Representative of Italy to the European Union<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong>\u00a0from 17 April 2023.

The Representative to COPS, Ambassador Andrea Orizio<\/b><\/h3>\n

Born in Brescia (Italy) on the 25th of January, 1967.<\/p>\n

After graduating in Law from the University of Milan in 1991, he attended post-graduate specialization courses\/Masters at ISPI (Istituto per gli Studi di Politica Internazionale) in Milan, SIOI (Societ\u00e0 Italiana per l\u2019Organizzazione Internazionale) in Rome, ENA (Ecole Nationale d\u2019Administration) Paris, and joined the Italian Diplomatic Service in 1992.<\/p>\n

From 1992 to 1993 he was Deputy Head of the Africa Desk (Economic Affairs) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, after which he served at the Office of the Defence Minister\u2019s Diplomatic Counsellor from 1993 to 1994, followed by the Unit for Armaments Authorization and Control in 1994-1995.<\/p>\n

From 1995 to 2000 Head of the Economic Section<\/strong> (Deputy Head of Mission in 1996-1997) at the Italian Embassy in Prague, and from 2000 to 2002 Deputy Head of Mission and Counsellor<\/strong> at the Italian Embassy in Zagreb, where he was also NATO Croatia Contact Point Officer.<\/p>\n

From 2002 to 2004 Deputy Head<\/strong> and from 2004 to 2005 ead of the Western Balkans Department<\/strong> (DG Europe) at the Foreign Affairs\u2019 Ministry in Rome. From 2005 to 2008 First Counsellor<\/strong> at the Italian Permanent Delegation to NATO, in Brussels, in charge of issues relating to the Mediterranean Dialogue, the Istanbul Cooperation Initiative, Middle East, NATO\u2019s Partnerships and Western Balkans, NATO-Ukraine, NATO-Georgia, NATO\u2019s enlargement (Albania and Croatia accession), Operation Active Endeavour, and NATO-EU matters. NATO Political
\nCommittee\u2019s Member.<\/p>\n

From 2008 to 2013, Minister Counsellor<\/strong> and Deputy Head of Mission at the Italian Embassy in Cairo. At the rising of the \u201cEgyptian Revolution\u201d, on the 25th January 2011, he was Charg\u00e9 d\u2019Affaires a.i. and managed a 130 staff Embassy in emergency conditions. Head of the Anti-Terrorism and Global Threats Unit at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Political Affairs), in Rome, from 2013 to 2014.<\/p>\n

From 2014 to 2016, Balkans and Adriatic Director<\/strong> (DG European Union) at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International ooperation, as well as National Coordinator of the Central European Initiative, EU Macroregional Strategies EUSAIR and EUSALP, Western Balkans\u2019 Process.<\/p>\n

From 2016 to 2020, Ambassador\/Head of the OSCE Mission to Serbia<\/strong> (150 multinational staff and 10 million euros yearly budget), appointed at the end of an international selection.<\/p>\n

Back to the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in 2020, he was Head of Central and Northern Europe Division<\/strong> (DG Europe), and Deputy Director for European Countries. In 2021-2023, he was Deputy Director for European Countries (DG Europe and Trade Policy) and Coordinator for EFTA Countries and UK at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. In 2022-2023, he was also \u201cSpecial Ambassador\u201d and Europe Coordinator for Rome EXPO 2030 candidacy.<\/p>\n

Since March 2023, he is Ambassador\/Permanent Representative of Italy to the EU Political and Security Committee<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Languages: Italian mother tongue, fluent English and French, some knowledge of Czech, Serbian, Croatian and Arabic.<\/p>\n

Married, one son and one daughter.<\/p>\n
