The Permanent Representation

The Permanent Representation

The Permanent Representation plays a pivotal role in the framework of the relations between the Italian Authorities and EU Institutions both in conducting the negotiations within the different instances of the EU Council as well as looking after the general relations with the other Institutions, notably the European Parliament and the European Commission.

The Permanent Representation’s main mission is to promote and defend the Italian positions within the EU, particularly (but not only) in the preparatory bodies of the Council of Ministers’ meetings.

In this framework, the Permanent Representation actively contributes to the elaboration and implementation of all the EU policies: Internal Market, Agriculture, Fisheries, Consumers, Tourism, Transport, Telecommunications, Employment, Industry, Health, Research, Environment, Education, External Relations, Economic and Monetary Affairs, Justice and Home Affairs.

The Representation’s staff enumerates personnel of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and “experts” detached by other national administrations. The head of the Mission is the Permanent Representative, assisted by the Deputy Permanent Representative.
